The Return of Dot Com Days ?

One of India's worst website, Sulekha.Com has joined the bandwagon to throw money to gain customers. Sulekha is offering Rs 1 crore ($250,000) to bloggers blogging on their platform - in a way of speaking you get paid to create content on Sulekha. Not too long ago, ibibo had also offered Rs 1.5 crore in a blogger hunt challenge.

This reminds me of the Dot Com days when Pradeep Kar blew millions on ITSpace.Com and Indya.Com. ITSpace was shutdown and he sold himself out of Indya.Com. I still remember how carelessly they sent ITSpace.Com wrist watches to visitors of the website. Any business model luring visitors with money ain't gonna survive.

Coming back to Sulekha, it is one of the third rate websites, at least their advertising section. I had raised several complaints and issues and they never bothered to reply. However, VC investors are so blind that they are just carried away and don't mind committing their money to well established corporate criminals like Himachal Futuristic :-)

Younger Indians Going the Digital Way

Microsoft which has lost the Web 2.0 and Search battle to rivals is pretty serious about India where their are tremendous growth opportunities. Tom Bowman, Regional Ad Sales Director said,

India is at a very key stage in online advertising. Our research shows that the Indian audience below the age of 19 years is using digital as prime media. We would like to improve the connection between Live Messenger and mobile. We also want to makes Live Spaces, our social networking product, stronger in India.
Microsoft's changing directions has made it a slacker on the Web. MSN-Live search is lagging behind Google by huge margin. Microsoft's adCenter has not been able to take off because they are unable to develop a super scalable technology to analyze content on demand and serve context based Ads. The list is endless...
